Think twice before you judge • March 08, 2010, 11:25:12 PM -

I was watching a documentary on Discovery about people working in what we would consider inhabitable conditions or disgusting. While watching it, I start to think twice about how we view some jobs and wonder why they do it or what were they thinking and etc. I see the desperation in those workers and how their words starts to tremble and their eyes starts to get teary when they talk about their children and family. It's not what they want to do and they have no other option except starve to death. One may argue that they have other options such as applying for a better job. It's not easy as it seems. They may not have the qualifications, pay may not be enough and what's worst is that tomorrow may come one day too late. They were interviewing this mother who was working in a factory for only $300 a month in Thailand. She send $200 home to her parents to help rais her son and she keeps $100 to pay for her bills and living expenses. She only gets to see her son twice a year because they live in the country and she works in the city and couldn't afford a car or taxi. Then they interview a prostitute. First she started off talking about how great the money is and how much they can make a night. Then when it came down to her children, she broke down in tears and cry. I understand she is ashame of herself but she has no other option but to go through with it if she was to keep her children in school, pay the bills and set food on the table.

So before you start to look down on people with unusual or disgusting jobs, think twice at how hard they are working to support the family that is dependent on them.

things change as you age and start to see the world in it's true complexity. there are many jobs out there that are looked upon in society. some people do these kind of jobs 'cause they know no better, they have too, etc. i did look down upon these people when i was younger, but after grasping the meaning of life. to what i know, you start to understand and realize why people would do such a thing. we got it good, and some people struggle to make a penny. from what society has told me, doing such a job is bad thing. but if you have to do this kind of job just to live a life. how is that wrong? we do live in a mess world where rich people would rather support thier own needs then support the poor.

Kind of the same as saying "Don't judge someone unless you've walked in their shoe".

My mom worked in a factory and I never really think much about it until my english teacher in high school commented about his experience working in a factory and how it changed his perspective of the world.  Last summer I was thinking back about his words and since I was on break from school I went to work with my mom.  Mom didn't want me to go - saying that the work was hard and fast paced.  But I worked there for a month - and that was enough to motivate me to do the best I could in school so I could help my parents.

It really changed my perspective and made me appreciate and respect my parents more.

I use to work in a factory too. It was my second job. It was hard work and it was dirty. I can understand what you're saying. I agree with you, that seeing our parents strive so hard to make our lives better motivate us to do better in education so we can make them proud of us.

When I was younger, I never understood why my parents never bought us what we asked for. It felt like they didn't love us. Now, I realized that they do love us. It was for the better that they didn't buy any materialistic things other than school supplies and set food on the table. Now, it's my turn to make sure they don't suffer.

The way i see it, a job is just a job to pay for expenses.  It's more of dont' judge a person too quick!

I like tha tshow call, oh goodness, somethign BOSS where they get either the head boss of teh company to come down and work for the job and have them go through the hardships that his workers go through.  I think it really widens the top dawg's eyes on how important their employees are.

You know, after thinking about it, I think it's more about being understanding rather than judging. Now I think I was too quick when I posted this up. Grin
